New Forest South Scout District, Lymington, Pennington, Brockenhurst, Sway, Hordle, Milford & Keyhaven, New Milton, Barton

WELCOME TO NEW FOREST SOUTH CUB SCOUTING!

Want to go camping, have a go at archery, abseiling, climbing, rafting, canoeing or shooting. Then you need to be a Cub.

Cubs do loads of cool stuff together. We go on trips out, ride in boats, cycle, do night hikes and play loads of cool games every week.

We also learn how to make things and get badges for trying new things and showing off the things we can do.

You need to be 8 years old and can stay until you are 10 and a half. After that life gets even more exciting as a Scout!

The District also runs an number of events over the year to bring Cubs from different packs together and expand their horizons. Sometimes the winning teams go through to County events where they compete with other teams from other Districts.

The Swimming gala has been run for a few years now in February with ever increasing numbers taking part

This is followed in March by a six-a-side football competition with last years winners, New Milton, competing and doing well at County level.

Mastermind was a hit this year and rotates at County level with a chess competition so this year a lot of Cubs will be learning chess.

Ready Steady Cook is in June and the Cubs have no idea what they are cooking until they get there. This can lead to a few burnt offerings but more often the judges are hard pressed to decide on a winner.

In past years we have run a sports day and plan to bring this event back soon.

We also hope to fit in 2 camps as a District; one for all Cubs and one for the Sixers.

The Clogg trophy and Junk Wars take place in the Autumn with the former being a cross-country run around a short forest course.

The Junk Wars involves the Cubs being surprised by a modeling task. In recent years they have had to create a vehicle for carrying an egg, a catapult that fired tennis balls and a pirate ship which had to sail over the floor by waving a piece of cardboard behind its sail.

This year, 2008, we ran a Go-Kart Grand Prix for all the cubs in the District and had 46 entrants from 7 of the 8 packs.

Competition was intense but friendly and the event was probably our best yet. Next year we plan to make it even more special.
